Curvy Momagers Court | Sport Report 4/18/16

Sports news from a Momager's POV......

President Obama beats Steph Curry

Have you seen it?  Steph Curry actually loses to President Obama in Connect Four.  It is the cutest but uber smart video by My Brother's Keeper, a mentorship program for young men.  Barack also shows Steph how to professionally do a resume, reads to him from Audacity of Hope but he ends with helping him clean up his shot.  You can watch the video (and be sure to share it) below.  Last week the President met with other African American celebrities and notable figures to highlight the MBK program.  Way to go Prez!

NBA Advertising on Jerseys - Not feelin it

The NBA has announced that staring with the 2017 season advertisers will get their chance to advertise on player jerseys.  HATED IT!  I really think this stinks but I don't run the company and it's a business move certainly.  I just really hope they don't get outrageous with it.  There is way too much advertisement everywhere else:  The floor, the mop that cleans the floor, arenas inside and out - GEESH enough already.  Can't await to previews these jerseys and really is that going to impact you purchasing an item because a player has it on his jersey?  I dunno but hear the NFL might be next.

Sheryl Swoopes Causing a Stir

It's being reported that former WNBA All Star Sheryl Swoops is having player management problems over at Loyola.  Apparently 12 players have asked for a transfer or to be released from their scholarships.  Players are stating that Swoopes treatment of individual players and her demeanor are the cause for the mass exodus.  Administration has launched an investigation and ensure student-athlete mistreatment will not be tolerated.  The teams record until Swoops since 2013 is 31-62.  Not all players are meant to coach.

MOM School

Well ladies I'm working on video segments of Mom School so stay tuned but until then check out a ref foul call that all bball mamas need to learn about.

Defensive Three SecondsA defensive player is not allowed inside the key area for more than three seconds unless he is
guarding the player with the ball or is actively guarding any opponent. To be considered actively guarding, a defender must be within an arms length of his opponent. If an offensive player moves through the key, the defender must be within an arms length, and also move along with the offensive player. He can not just stand there and put his arms out to the new three-second count.

Curvy Momagers Court | Sport Report 10/5

Sports from a Mom's perspective.....

Who Rules The World? GIRLS
The A's hired coach Justine Siegal last week making her the first female coach for an MLB team.  How major is that?  Get it major, major league...yeah okay.  Well I thought it was cute.  Anywhoo she's working with the developmental league as a guest instructor.  Virtual High 5s!

Major Baller Money
John Wall just up'd his cred as a true NBA Baller Giver.  Wall donated $400K to The Center in DC, homeless.  He's actually known for being charitable but the size of this donation is major!

D. Rose OUT
Orbital fracture is the diagnosis.  Cheers to the start of the season but what a rough way to start for Derrick Rose.  Good news is his surgery was successful and he's expected to be back by the start of the regular season.  My kid isn't happy at all -- he's truly a Rose fan.

On IG one day and stumbled across the Warriors new PF Jason Thompson's blog.  Moms check it out there's definitely a great message this young man is sharing about his NBA story and how he keeps a positive attitude.  Share it with you kid:  Jason Thompson Blog

Until next week,

DEM BOYS LOOKING at SERIOUS INJURIES

In last week's game WR Dez Bryant injured himself causing him to miss a month out of the season.  Welp this week QB Tony Romo suffered a collar bone fracture - OUCH - and is suspected to be out for the same amount of time.  Good news is they are 2-0 for the season though.

HEATED HARVICK at NASCAR

Things got testy between Kevin Harvick and  Jimmie Johnson after The Sprint Cup playoffs where Harvick finished 42nd.  Being the returning champion it didn't sit well with him that Johnson made contact with him in the race forcing Harvick towards the wall.  Luckily Harvick's manager intervened after Kevin shoved Jimmie and balled his fist.  I had no idea NASCAR was like Basketball Wives LA!

KOBE RETURNS

This news is sure to make Lakers fans happy, not because he's going to make miraculous changes to the line up BUT because of the hurdles Kobe Bryant had to go through to return to the game.  It's his 20th season and he's scheduled to start practicing with the team at the end of the month.

SATs

If you don't have your high schooler registered for the SAT or PSAT get on it this week.  You can check the College Board website for test dates and fees.  Remember coaches are looking at test information as early as Junior year for athletes.

WADE to LA

Look's like Dwayne is flirting with the idea of moving the Wade Show to the LakeShow.  Talks
between the two have begun but no final word on if Wade will opt out of his Miami contract.  He somewhat eluded during his NBA Finals commentating that "when he was in Miami", and the rumors have been flying since then.

THE DRAFT

It's expected that Kentucky's Towns will be selected1st in the draft this week going to the Timberwolves.  Other expected picks can be found here: Bleacher Report's Top Round Picks

GIMME a BREAK REF!

Have you ever found yourself yelling or at least thinking, "That ref can't call s#@%!"?  You are certainly not alone and after doing some research found some great techniques to get my point across without seeming like a crazy Momager!  After all Zebras have feeling too.

- Know the game.  Yea I'm guilty of this one, The Phenom will tell you I don't have a clue sometimes so I'm dedicated to know what the calls mean.  You can check out this YouTube video as a great reference: Calls Refs Make

- Tape the games.  Technology is a beautiful thing, if you think a ref is making bad calls continually you can send the video to the powers that be (school AD, district athletic's department) to prove your point.

- Give the ref a break. They can't catch every call but as long as they are calling the majority of the game the right way understand when you don't get EVERY call.  This shows your player not only good sportsmanship but that they have to play through bad calls.

See ya next week on the CMs' Court Report!

The Phenom | Tshirt Tip

My child has a million and one tshirts.  From camps, teams he played on, clinics - he's kept everyone of them!  So I needed a way to keep them until he moves on to college, well maybe after college.  Never know when it might be needed for some NBA behind the scenes story (sniggle).  I found this great tip on Pinterest, tried it out and loved how it turned out.  I wonder how long he's going to keep it this way however.  If you have a man child with tons of tshirts you'll love this tip.  Comment below and tell me how it works.

Happy folding,

Curvy Momager
